Sometimes, you just get lucky. Really lucky.
On Thursday, I got to the point on the last assignment I had left where I couldn't see straight. (I turned it in, don't worry!) So, being Queen of Bad Decisions, I decided to hop on a tram down Sydney Road and go looking at fabric. There's a little cluster of 3-4 stores around this one stop, so I start at Unique Fabrics (where I got my grey wool), and while they have more beautiful wool and I want something Really Warm, the wool is still $20/m and the last time I was there she didn't take card. So I moved on, going across the road to Super Cheap Fabrics. I didn't see much there, and was just about to leave when...
There it was.
The blue silk taffeta that I have 2 meters of at home. It's still at the shop, after like three months. Fate.
Of course, I have to take it to the counter. Have her measure out what's left. Debate internally, whether three and a half meters is worth it. It's only $15/m, freakishly cheap. But...three and a half meters, plus the two I already have is enough for a court dress. A bliaut with skirts that are Extra AF. As I told my SO, "We're talking 10m skirt hems. Future me already hates present me."

I also did a Dumb (well, according to my bank account, I did a Dumb) and poked through the little remnant bin on the counter, and found a meter-long remnant of purple-shot-gold taffeta that I want to use for sleeve lining. Absolutely gorgeous. I also have a blue-shot-pink taffeta already in my stash (another 2m piece) and that too may end up as linings if I can't figure out what it wants to be.
I don't know how long it'll be before this dress comes out, but hopefully it's relatively soon. I want to wear it to the next Royal Court I attend. But I also need trim for it. Something woven in silk. Hmm...who can I bat my eyelashes at for trim?
